Toro Electric Super Blower Vac - No. 51591 Review

After raking for years I finally broke down and purchased a blower Vac. I have always hated the sound of theses things and they always have seemed inadequate. Not this one. While calling it quiet would be far from the truth, it is less annoying than others my neighbors use.
The Blower was fantastic, almost too strong in some areas, although it does have two speed settings.
After blowing my leaves into a Huge pile I set up the Vac attachment and was moderately pleased with the results.
Don't expect to walk around your yard and suck all of the leaves up with this tool, even the big truck mounted suckers don't work like that. You need to feed this thing, and watch out for sticks. I found that it did indeed mulch the leaves into a 5 to 1 ratio, pretty good in my opinion. And when the occasional green stick got caught up in the impeller it was a synch to get it out.
Overall I rate this as a great buy!

Replacement Made To OEM Specs Belt for 174883, Craftsman, Poulan Pro, Husqvarna. Review

The belt is a great replacement for the Craftsman 174883, and a helluva lot less expensive! Does the job just fine. Seems a bit thicker than the original, but it's hard to tell for certain since the original is well-worn. But the belt fits the pulleys just fine.

Earthwise 20-Inch Lawn Mower Blade RB82020 Review

I liked the old blade so well I bought three new ones.The damn things are so lazy that the three of them don't do any better than the old one did by itself.Two of the new ones just sit on the shelf trying to look pretty and just laugh at me every time I walk by them.I guess that the low price they cost me gives me good cause to tolerate their smug laughter but I was hoping that the three of them would work together and save me some time.They are quite sharp, though. I guess that having three of them will save me time from getting more in the next couple years.They are a lot prettier than the old one was.They did come very quickly and they don't eat much at all.I guess that the three new ones will just sit on their ass all winter with the old one.They do pick up bad habits rather quickly.
I guess I should be quite happy. They are my precious metals and in this economy they won't loose value like the yard they were bought to cut.

If I could give this mower 10 stars I would.I live on a sloping, uneven lot in Colorado, with some steep pitches.As a 65 year old woman, I wanted the lightest possible mower with no maintenance hassle.Battery operated or gasoline engine mowers would be too heavy.I wheel this around like a toy, often one handed as I brush shrubs or flowers out of the way.It does a beautiful job on the front lawn.But I also put it to the acid test yesterday, and cut the rough area on the steep back of my property.This mower went through 16 to 20 inch high grass and weeds (slowly so it would mulch thoroughly), shredded a large sprinkler head (ugh!) and cut through juniper branches.It never stopped, and only slowed a little when I hit a really big pile of viney weeds to mulch through. I ran it on the highest setting, but it was great to be able to lower it with a quick and easy touch when I wanted to.It's very easy to stop and start.What a wonderful change from the pull to start gas mower!Also, it never clogged no matter what I put under it, just mulched this large amount of organic matter into particles so small they aren't visible.Be aware if you buy it that a cord does not come with it. Also, delivery from The Outdoor Store/Dixie Sales was quick:ordered May 30 pm and received June 4 am.July 14, 2009 update:I didn't know an amp from a watt when I bought this.At first I used a 16 gauge 100 foot extension cord I had for Christmas tree lights.It seemed to run OK, but I could have damaged the motor.So just got the Woods 2885 Yellow Jacket 100-Foot 12/3 SJTW Yellow 15 Amp/125 Volt Rated Outdoor Extension Cord with PowerLite PlugRated Outdoor Extension Cord with PowerLite Plugand used it for the first time last night.With a 15 amp rating it has plenty of power for this 12 amp mower.It was absolutely no more difficult to move around, and the Alert Stamping 7000WR Pro-Reel Cord Carrier is great for tidy storage, easy to wind and unwind. Highly recommend both these products, too.

American Lawn Mower SK-1 Reel Mower Sharpening Kit Review

If you have a reel mower, you need to sharpen the blades every couple of years, depending on how much you use it (just like with a power mower). If you used to have a power mower, you might be tempted to try to find someone to do it for you. Although I heard of someone in my area who *might* be able to do it, I decided to try this kit first.

The directions are straight-forward and clearly described in the manual. In short: turn the mower upside-down, use the brush to "paint" the compound (a thick goop) along the end of each blade, pop off a wheel, slip on the crank, and have your son turn it for a couple of minutes. (If you don't have children, you'll have to do it yourself.) Finally clean off the compound and re-assemble the mower. You should be able to complete this chore in 30-45 minutes. (The alternative is to pack it up, drive it to someone else, and come home; then later drive over, pick it up, and drive it home again. Oh yeah, and you'd have to pay for it too.)

The manual also describes how to adjust the blades for the optimal cut, which is something you need to do occasionally. I use strips of newspaper to ensure an even cut along the entire width of the reel.

I estimate there's enough compound in this kit for about six or eight sharpenings, which means it could last up to ten years--quite a deal compared to paying someone else to do this simple chore--and you'll have the satisifaction of knowing you did a great job.
